What Makes You Smile?

Hello!
So, what makes you smile? That's the theme for the June challenge over at Our Creative Corner!
Jan is our host, and this is what she has to say:

 What makes you smile

Close your eyes for a few minutes, relax and think about something that makes you smile..............
It could be a special person, a favourite place, a quote, an incident, the list is endless!
Your June challenge is to create something that will make us smile, it could be a scrapbook or journal page, a canvas, a tag, whatever your imagination dictates.

Our sponsor this month is Tando Creative!

Tando Creative are offering a selection of products for the winner of this months challenge, a prize well worth winning!
What makes me smile?
Creating painty backgrounds and drawing quirky figures!

I thought I would share just how my figure came into being. First, she was sketched out onto watercolour paper, and cut out. Yes, poor girl looks weird as she has no hair yet!

Sketch out the shape of the dress onto text paper...

Cut it out...

Make sure it fits!

Do the same for the wings..

Glue the text in place...

I then painted the dress...

And then added stamping for extra detail...

Her face was then painted..

And the whole  thing stuck to the background..

Now the hair can be sketched in...

and painted...

I added extra details to the hair with a fine liner pen..

My background is a typical 'Trish' painty, stencilly and stamped affair..

I added a heart and some words...

As a finishing touch I edged the whole figure, with a smudgy black pencil.
I hope you like her!

Don't forget, the 'What Makes You Smile' challenge can be found over on the Our Creative Corner blog now!

Love Trish xxx

  8. I loved your quirky girl on the painty background Trish. I am always attracted to these kinds of paintings. I like the balance of colour and texture on the background and the pop of the bright red dress sets the whole thing up into something that is whimsical and interesting to look at. To me your girl has a dreamy, wistful sort of expression, I related to that feeling, or maybe I am just viewing the girl in terms of my own feelings right now. Either way - brilliant piece for the challenge. So glad that I get to be moved and inspired by artists like yourself. -Candice-

  9. Oh you are so blumin' clever! She is gorgeous (even with her white "hair"). Your ability to draw like this & then build a creation is superb! Always a funky background going on too. I am looking for a challenge & tando craft were my first chipboard used. Sadly, what makes me happy may be hard to translate? Will now pop over. Tfs as always....
